Why Remembrance Day Matters to ACSIS Life Coaching

At ACSIS Life Coaching, co-founded by Veterans Sam and Lloyd, Remembrance Day is deeply personal. It’s not just a date on the calendar, it’s a moment of national reflection, a tribute to those who served and sacrificed, and a call to support the veterans who carry visible and invisible wounds.

Our mission: grounded in clarity, courage, and connection, resonates even more deeply on this day. We believe that true remembrance includes action: supporting veterans’ mental health, easing the transition to civilian life, and fostering communities of empathy and resilience.

A Modern Perspective on Remembrance: Reflection and Responsibility

While traditional ceremonies still play an important role, today's Remembrance Day extends beyond poppies and silence. It’s about:

  • Recognising ongoing struggles, including PTSD and adjustment difficulties.

  • Creating inclusive spaces where veterans feel heard and supported.

  • Promoting mental wellness across the veteran community.

UK Defence Secretary John Healey recently echoed this at the London Poppy Factory, describing Remembrance Day as “a time of unity and gratitude”, especially for the 457 British personnel lost in Afghanistan and many more who returned home changed.

Meaningful Ways to Support Veterans on Remembrance Day

This year, take real steps toward supporting veterans across the UK:

1. Practice Mindful Gratitude

Spend a moment in silence, and offer heartfelt thanks, whether in person or on social media. A sincere “thank you for your service” can mean more than you know.

2. Connect with a Veteran

Reach out. A simple message, phone call, or visit can be grounding especially on emotionally significant days like this.

3. Listen Without Judgement

If someone opens up, hold space for them. Active listening is one of the most powerful tools for connection.

4. Prioritise Your Own Mental Health

We can't support others unless we’re steady ourselves. Self-care is not selfish: it’s essential.
